Purpose of Orthotic Devices
If you have a certain injury or condition,
your doctor may decide that functional foot orthotic device should
be helpful to you. What this means is that your doctor has decided
that a change in your mechanics of walking, running or standing may
be appropriate. Your doctor will have a working diagnosis, and will
have seen something in the way you walk or run that may be
aggravating your symptoms. The following represent common
considerations at the time of your examination:
- How much support should be put in each area
of the foot?
- How much shock absorption should be
used?
- How durable should the inserts be
made?
- What type of shoes will these inserts be
used in?
- Should there be a difference in support of
the right to the left sides?
