The Cancer Care program at Saint Francis is one of only 1,400 programs approved by American College of Surgeons. Facilities with such approved programs treat more than 85% of cancer patients, although they make up only 25% of the total hospitals in our country. In 2008 Saint Francis received a full three year approval, demonstrating we rank at the top among these
outstanding institutions.
Saint Francis has a 29-bed unit that focuses on the needs of patients and their families. Specialized nurses, therapists, dietitians and other professionals work closely with attending physicians and oncologists. The center also provides outpatient chemotherapy services, home care and support group referrals.
Our Cancer Registry collects, analyzes, reports to governmental agencies and maintains demographics as well as disease related data on all types of malignancies, on over 20,000 cancer patients seen in our facility since 1959. In depth analysis of these data provides our physicians an opportunity to notice trends in the epidemiology of malignancies, to assess the
effectiveness of their diagnostic and therapeutic efforts and design and implement the most effective treatment for their patients.
Our Tumor Boards serve as forum for discussion on complex or interesting cases where various specialists shared their knowledge, experience & expertise and make recommendations on the best way to treat the patients.
Frequent lectures on cancer related topics are offered to our medical staff at large in an effort to provide them the with most current, up to date advances in cancer medicine.
