About HIV Care
HIVCare was established in 1990 to meet a growing demand for access to promising experimental HIV/AIDS treatment in the San Francisco Bay Area. For 13 years, through 2003, HIVCare conducted more than 200 clinical trials of promising new drugs at all stages of development and provided vital on-site support services for those living with HIV and AIDS.
In July 2003 active clinical research component of HIVCare was discontinued, but support for clinical research at other sites and support services for those living with HIV continues.
Current activities:
- The "Clinical Research Clearinghouse," through the bi-monthly HIVCare Newsletter, provides access to information about HIV-related clinical studies in the Bay Area.
- HIVCare is an AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP) enrollment site.
- ADAP provides access to HIV medications for people who would be otherwise unable to afford them.
- HIVCare coordinates the needs of newly diagnosed HIV-positive patients with appropriate community services and resources and provides referrals to AIDS service organizations (ASO) for any HIV-positive individual.
- HIVCare provides treatment education and updates through the HIVCare Newsletter.
