Emergency Department
Bigger, Better, Faster...

Located at Saint Francis Memorial Hospital at 1150 Bush Street (between Hyde and Leavenworht Streets), the new 19-bed Emergency Department is dedicated to serving the emergent/urgent health care needs of San Francisco's most ethnically diverse and densely populated neighborhoods. Our newly renovated ED is the City's first emergency room to comply with the California Seismic Safety Act.  The old Saint Francis ED was know as "small but mighty" because the ED receives more patients via ambulance than all other hospitals except for San Francisco General Hospital. The new and improved ED is now amongst the "mightiest" in San Francisco.

Our 24-7 Emergency Department serves people of all ages, cultures and incomes. Our doctors and nurses pride themselves on excellent culturally sensitve communications with those we serve. On-site translation services are are available in Cantonese, Mandarin, Taishanese, Spanish, Russian and French. Every bedside is equipped with a CyraCom telephone translation system which offers translation services in over 100 languages. Electronic tracking of patients makes the process more efficient and the rapid medical evaluation program has allowed us to decrease the wait time to less than 30 minutes in 85% of our cases.

All Emergency Department physicians are Board Certified.  The nursing staff has been trained and certified in a broad range of medical emergencies including Advanced Cardiac Life Support, radiation accident events, mass casualty events, disasters, infectious diseases, burn trauma and pediatric emergencies.

Planning for our Community's Future...

The new Emergency Department is more technologcally advanced and offers more patient privacy and confidentiality. The 10,000 square foot facility boasts many private rooms, flat-screen televisions at every bed side and electronic patient records.  The ED's special treatment rooms are designated for patient observation, pediatrics, gynecology, infection isolation and decontamination. All of these improvements enable Saint Francis to better serve our patients and our community.
